The triple 7 is designed for long range flying as opposed to the 737 which is designed for short haul flights. The newer lower DU’s or Multi Function Display’s functionality as a systems monitor is absolutely great, accompanied with standard and non-standard checklists with a touch interface, much like your average notebook PC. Powered by two GE90 turbofans, this plane is totally a beast. The plane maintains a stable attitude even when you let go of the stick, apart from the flight stability the triple 7 also felt less cumbersome without much of the manual trimming of the elevators in-flight to counter for the pitching moments from airspeed changes(speed trim).

The flight controls feel responsive just like the 737 but the ride is much stable in the 777, thanks to more inertia. Lately, I’ve been trying my hands on the PMDG 777 and I seem to like everything about it. Though it isn’t always dangerous during descent, it can make for a rather uncomfortable ride for the pax back there in Economy class who’re gonna complain (Remember that all 3 axis of flight intersect at the CoG which is roughly near the wing)! Stick and throttle is always recommended. A good example: Say the A/T is engaged and holding FMC commanded speed through your arrival route, you’re descending at a steady 1800 fpm when A/T throttles down to slow down to a new speed, this will by laws of physics cause your airplane to pitch down causing the pilot to compensate for the change in attitude by pitching up, this again will further bleed airspeed and cause the A/T to overcompensate for the added loss of airspeed causing the plane to suddenly pitch up. Beware: Using autothrottle during final approach can turn out to be dangerous thing, it’s biggest let down is pilot-induced oscillations. During other phases of flight, autothrottle usage is advisable only when coupled with the autopilot. Use of Autothrottle during different phases of flight:Īs stated in the Flight Crew Operations Manual or FCOM, Boeing states that autothrottle use is recommended during takeoff and climb, despite flying the plane manually.
